Directions
Canon Grange opens onto the Cathedral Green and as there is free parking overnight inside the cathedral precinct, alongside the Green, this is the preferred approach. If you follow your satnav into Sadler st., You have entered the one-way system and will have to drive round Wells again. Try to avoid this !
From the East (London and South East)
Use M3 and A303 (not M4); Then head for WARMINSTER (by-pass), then FROME (by-pass) then A361 to SHEPTON MALLET (straight through the middle following A 371 “Wells” signs); Through Croscombe BUT 1 mile later, look for signpost “Dulcote”and turn RIGHT off the main road.
** Zigzag through tiny village, over hill and down into Wells via “Tor st”. At the first T junction, turn left;, 15 yards later KEEP LEFT( off the main road) into “St. Andrew’s st”.. The Cathedral appears on left ; drive under arch onto Cathedral Green. Park down left side of street. We are at the end – second doorway on the green, to the left.
From the North (Bristol, Bath)
A39 Keep LEFT at first traffic lights at bottom of Bristol Hill. Then follow $$ below.
From South West M5 J23 to A39 ( Glastonbury by-pass)
follow “Wells”signposts. Entering Wells – turn RIGHT at first (large) roundabout – drive out of town along A 371 (sign-post “Shepton Mallet”) BUT – 1 mile later, turn LEFT, off the main road – sign-post “Dulcote” Then as ** above !
From the West (M5 J 21 via A 371 “Cheddar”)
Entering Wells, straight on at first traffic light, and 2nd light, and 3rd light and 4th. Light (pedestrian) to 5th. Light;. Turn RIGHT at this T junction (look for “cathedral school” signpost)
$$ Drive 80 yards and turn hard LEFT (look for “cathedral school” signpost). Drive up the “Liberty”, pass school on left, turn right at top, down “East Liberty” and turn RIGHT into “st. Andrew st.” in 50 yard s( as main road turns left). The Cathedral appears on left ; drive under arch onto Cathedral Green. Park down left side of street. We are at the end – second doorway on the green on the left.
This parking usually clears after 5.00 pm. – if no spaces – drive to turning bay at end and walk in to us for advice. Have a safe trip.
